ISSUE #9 cont'd --- DID YOU KNOW?

Since we now have a more extensive list of Crisis Lines in BC under our RESOURCES page I thought you might like to know a little bit more about the Centre.

That....
back in April, 2009, The Province newspaper, the Crisis Intervention & Suicide Prevention Centre of British Columbia, the Crisis Line Association of British Columbia, the Vancouver Police Department, the West Vancouver Police Department and TELUS, installed six crisis hotline phones on the Lions Gate Bridge.

They are clearly marked yellow boxes with wireless telephones in them and are on both sides of the bridge. The phones can be used either for emotional support or to report an accident or other situation.

                                                           ----

That ....
the Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Centre of BC volunteers on the phone lines are trained to not only offer you emotional support but also are there to help you ....
Explore options and solutions to the problems causing you distress

Discover your own strengths and how you can help yourself

Organize your thoughts and feelings so you are more able
to look at options and solutions to your distressing problems

And also to ...
Provide referrals to other services you can access

----

That ....
the topics most frequently discussed in 2010 on The Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Centre of BC’s crisis lines were, in order of highest percentage of calls:
