WANTED: PEER SUPPORT WORKER - 
(Community Kitchens Assistant)
1 (one) Volunteer Peer Position with St Helens , Coast Mental Health,
20 hours per month for One - 6 month term.

Job Description:
Under the supervision of the Peer Support Program Coordinator or Site Manager and front line staff, you will work with clients with mental illness with the objective of assisting peer/s to achieve life / socialization skills. The successful candidate will be a well-organized individual who exhibits initiative, flexibility, sound judgment and good interpersonal skills.

Duties will include: 1:1 work with peer or assisting in group peer activities: Getting to community activities; taking transit; budding with someone to help them feel less anxious riding transit; Go to recreation center / outings; Support someone going to a class; support someone connecting to their community; assisting at home: meal prep, meal planning, shopping, room organization.

Qualifications: The successful individual will:
1. have completed a Peer Support Training program or have equivalent training or
experience
2. have personal experience receiving services within the mental health system (required)
3. be able to be a role model to people recovering from a serious mental illness by sharing
common life experiences and practical information
4. have effective strategies for dealing with stress
5. be able to work cooperatively with other mental health staff
6. be willing to work with a culturally diverse population
7. respect other people's right to decline assistance
8. be able to adequately access public transportation,
9. be able to present in a professional manner, and
10. be empathetic, patient and supportive.


Honoraria:: $200.00 for 20 hours a month (including meetings).
