POSITION SUMMARY

The Peer Support Worker Project Coordinator ensures the operation, evaluation and development of the Simon Fraser PSW project. Working with local Mental Health Teams and other stakeholders, the Coordinator establishes and monitors the placement of contract PSW workers and coordinates regular training programs for new PSWs.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·      Coordinates the recruitment and placement of contract Peer Support Workers (PSWs) at partnering Mental Health Teams (MHTs). Works in liaison with MHT staff to establish local mentoring and case supervision for PSWs;

·      Provides follow-up support to PSWs and MHTs regarding working arrangements, ongoing training, PSW contract administration, etc;

·      Provides regular supervision to PSW workers through both one-to-one supervision and ongoing development / support groups;

·      Coordinates human resources function for PSWs including the processing of timesheets, leave of absences, payments, and other expenses;

·      Coordinates regular PSW training programs including the development of the curriculum and associated teaching materials, leading educational sessions, recruiting guest instructors, conducting trainee assessments (through designing and setting tests and / or assignments), and completing program evaluations;

·      Coordinates PSW training program work placements at MHTs, working in liaison with MHT staff to establish protocols for local supervision and evaluation of trainees;


·      Promotes the peer support philosophy, establishing effective communication regarding the PSW program between, and with, major stakeholders of mental health services;

·      Maintains contact with other provincial and / or other peer support initiatives to evaluate the CMHA program against best practice and identified performance standards. Makes recommendations to the Human Resources Manager for program changes where necessary;

·      Drafts the program’s operational procedures, policies and evaluation framework for approval by the Human Resources Manager, and implements these procedures and policies;

·      Prepares estimates for the Accounting Department regarding day-to-day elements the annual operating budget such as activity, travel and other program expenses, and monitors expenses within that budget;

·      Ensures the timely and efficient administration and recording of petty cash, time sheets, mileage and expense forms, schedules, incoming cash, invoices, and purchase orders for all program components;

·      Ensures the up to date maintenance of program client information, activity data, progress reports and information and other materials.


General

·         Attends monthly staff meetings, committee meetings and others as required.

·         Submits regular activity reports, timesheets, expense forms, etc. as required.

·         Reinforces and models work-related behaviour and interpersonal skills.

·         Represents the agency in a professional manner.

·         Provides cover for other program staff as appropriate and required.

·         Other related duties as appropriate and required.


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS


·         Bachelors degree in adult education or a social or health services discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;

·         Minimum two years experience in a mental health direct client or adult educational service (including one year staff supervisory experience);

·         Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of the philosophies of peer support, recovery and consumer empowerment;

·         Personal experience of receiving services within the mental health system;

·         Demonstrated budget setting and monitoring abilities;

·         Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently;

·         Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;

·         Demonstrated skill in word processing and spreadsheet computer applications;

·         Fluency in a second language desirable;

·         Current First Aid / CPR certification;

·         Possession of a valid BC drivers license and use of personal vehicle during working hours.
