ISSUE #59 cont'd -- Announcement #3

World Suicide Prevention Day

September 10, 2011

Hello everyone! As many may know Saturday September 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day. Events will take place across Canada – and around the world - to mark the day, including one here in Vancouver on the front steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery (Georgia Street side) from 11:30 – 12:30. Attendees are asked to bring serviceable shoes, gently worn or new, in memory of loved ones who have died by suicide. These will become a part of the program, being used to create a visual display of lives lost and to underscore the need to prevent such tragedies in future. Following the event the shoes will be taken by Lookout for distribution to those who can make use of them. If you would like to send shoes in honour of someone lost to suicide but you are unable to attend, please contact me at SAFER and we will make arrangements.

This year the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention (CASP) has partnered with Living Works in support of the theme ‘Building Suicide Safer Communities’ and this program theme brings a number of community groups to the site to share resource information. To learn how you can become involved in the Suicide Safer Communities initiative and/or how to become designated as a community working to become suicide safer please visit
