Maintaining your Mental Health
Learn how to manage symptoms, develop and maintain social supports, control anger, handle stigma, participate in meaningful activities, and improve communication skills

Policy & Standards Development
Learn how to define and develop policy and standards, levels of government, the legislative process, citizen engagement, government decisions on spending, and steps for participating in policy development.


Leadership Skills
Learn the role of leaders, leadership styles, facilitation, mediation, assertive caring, active listening, boundary issues, handling difficult situations, and mobilizing grass roots.


Advocacy Skills
Learn what an advocate is, types of advocacy, carrying out an advocacy plan, advocacy skills, individual rights and responsibilities, and confidentiality.


Steps to Starting a Self-Help Group
Learn how to find other consumers who share your interest, think ‘mutual aid’ from the start, find a suitable meeting place and time, target your membership, publicize and run your first public meeting, and define the purpose of the group.


Community Participation
Learn what community participation, democratic methods for conducting meetings, roles and responsibilities of board members and committees, accessing information and supports, and techniques for maximizing participation.

Preparing and Delivering Presentations
Learn about the speech recipe, using graphics/overheads, question and answer time, evaluation, the presenter, and stage fright.
